This same tarball can also be used to create gkrellxmms2 too,
but I've only set this up for gxmms2.

I have managed to get this working as far as playing the single
pre-loaded demo track only.

After fiddling around with this and xmms2-beta, I still have
not been able to work out how to set up an input client that
will let me play an audio CD. Maybe someone cleverer than me
can work out that crucial step, if it is indeed possible.

In the meantime I've downloaded and configured audacious instead,
and I think I'll stick with that.
