X craps out with the following error after upgrading to NVIDIA 7167
with
(==) Using config file: "/etc/X11/xorg.conf"
/sbin/modprobe: line 5: uname: command not found
/sbin/modprobe: line 5: grep: command not found
/sbin/modprobe: line 14: basename: command not found
/sbin/modprobe: line 21: /lib/modutils/sbin/: is a directory
(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to load the NVIDIA kernel module!
(EE) NVIDIA(0):  *** Aborting ***

the problem is /sbin/modprobe from modutil-wrappers fails to set PATH.
However,
export PATH=/bin:/usr/bin
at the top of /sbin/modprobe fixes the problem
