I finally wrote a weekly again - and in time too for this week. Seems like
I didn't have the time for a few weeks now and for good reasons. That
doesn't mean that things are not moving around. On the contrary - a lot
is happening at the moment that is interesting!

I managed to squeeze out a rc1 release including nptl and 2.6.24.5 during
the holidays. Unfortunately there are more and more issues relating to
2.6 device naming and detection possibilities that some stuff broke
when I upgraded the installer to udev. The grub code is horribly
outdated and will not work, and second and third hard discs were not
recognized properly. I've solved a bunch of those issues and am currently
investigating whether to rollout a fully updated rc2 or not.

The XOrg module saw some cleaning up but we're struggling still with
7.0 being out. Developers needed! Please use the submission queue to
join in on the progress - we need those submissions.

The biggest change is actually that glibc is now capable of being changed
to nptl. This of course doesn't work under 2.4 kernels and the switch
is therefore a manual action - you must lin glibc once with a special flag,
like this: `FORCE_THREADS=nptl lin -c glibc`. Make sure you recompile gcc
and binutils afterwards too. A full rebuild is _not_ required.

Apart from lunar stuff you might have heard that I'm currently working
for one of the larger chip manufacturers in the ... area ;^). Tomorrow
I'll be walking around OSDL's lab here, getting a small tour and meeting
some interesting folks from their labs. Good excuse not to write a weekly
right? Oh okay I'll try to keep up...
