my motivation for removing it:

1) it's not developed/maintained by its upstream authors

iirc, the orginal gtk-perl developement was founded by Ximian and its 
author is working on Mono now

2) the latest (bugfix) release is two years old

3) there is no application/module in moonbase that depends on gtk-perl

if you get it to compile and want to provide a fixed module I can
add it back to moonbase. Personally I don't see the need for it.
