udev no start on boot up

When it gets to that point it say;
/etc/init.d/udev: line 8 : /etc/rc.d/init.d/functions: No such file or
directory.
So tried lining initscripts, which wants chkconfig2. But chkconfig2 bombs with
a build error. It can't overwrite;
/etc//rc0.d (yes that's a double slash) through /etc//rc6.d
