initrd & RAID

Greetings,

I'm a Lunar user since day one, but have neither time nor sufficent expertise to aid development. This however, doesn't stop me from begging some help.

Recently, in an attempt to get more into the disc, boot and RAID experience, I set up a Lunar box with a 3Ware ATA RAID controller in RAID 1 using xfs. It installs nicely. What it doesn't do is boot.

I can get into the installation from the rescue disk. I am trying to make an initrd.img to pass the 3w-xxxx driver to the controller. mkinitrd complains that my loopback devices are all busy and doesn't create the image. All documentation for this card has the driver module being initiated by initrd, so other options are unknown to me. I'm more than open to other approaches, I just not aware of them.

So, any helpful hints would be appreciated. I've googled, rtfm and bashed on this for days. Now I must admit I'm cold stone stumped on how to proceed.
