Sebastien,
Here's some more info on this problem and a temporary
workaround. Would
you please
post it for me? Thanks.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------- The problem
seems to be with gdm as
well as possibly gnome-session. I first
encountered it when I upgraded to gdm-2.4.4.0 with
gnome-2.2. In that case,
gnome-session lasted less than 10 seconds and died,
returning me
automatically
to the gui login. It did not display any error
messages, etc. I could
still log in
using the failsafe-gnome, same as now. In that case,
I reverted to
gdm-2.4.1.5
and things worked normally.
I wasn't able to revert to gdm-2.4.1.5 using
gnome-2.4, but I did have
the cache
copy available. So, I lrm'd gdm, cd'd to /, and
untarred the
gdm-2.4.1.5 cache
copy. After fixing the ownership and permissions of
/var/gdm, I can now log
in to a full gnome-2.4 session. There is just one
error message on the
gui login
concerning an invalid line in the config file which I
haven't addressed
but it doesn't
keep me from logging in or gnome-2.4 from running. Of
course, doing it
this way
Lunar doesn't know that gdm is installed, but at least
it works.
Hope this helps.
Carl Powers
