kernel-2.6.0 and alsa-lib, alsa-utils

I was never able to pull that off, nor do I think it would be a terribly
great idea to try and build alsa-lib and alsa-utils without the driver.
If you have alsa already built into the kernel, all you really need is a
mixer to change the default sound level settings. On my Gnome desktop I
just use the "Volume Control" app under Multimedia and I'm on my way.
There may be something similar under KDE, I don't know. I did poke
around on the web trying to find a stand alone mixer without any luck.
Anyone else find one?
