I did a fresh install of 1.2 on my laptop not 3 days ago.  I had the ldconfig 
problem but it was fixed by rebuilding binutils, gcc, and glibc.  I have done 
updates daily and have not had any of the other problems you have had.

The procedure i used:
1. Install from ISO
2. lunar update
3. lin binutils, gcc, glibc
4. it's worked fine from this point on
