Not entirely about snort, but people have been experiencing openssh
updates kicking them off again.
I've made a init-functions that explicitly uses the PIDFILE feature if
it exists. since sshd is a good daemon and makes one, it will allow you
to stop and start the "master" process even when you are logged in
through ssh.

Anyone interested can lin theedge, log in to the box with ssh, remotely
update ssh and see if it kicks you off ;^).
hopefully this framework will proof the better one, since I'm out of
ideas on this one ;^)
