Font rendering patches

Zbiggy,

I've been wondering .. whats the new cairo patch ment to achieve? I've
been digging through font rendering resources for the past couple of
hours and I didn't get a clear picture. What patches are required ..
how do you enable the wanted behaviour .. is the cairo patch really the
only patch we need?

Some clarification would be very appreciated. Thanks!
