1.5.0 ISO questions

Terry, everyone,

I got some questions in #lunar but since people might be off to bed by
now I'll answer them here:

* on the 1.5.0 ISO I see you chose to leave of any cron daemon (like
hc-cron) and you don't provide metalog source in
/var/spool/lunar

That was intentionally. hc-cron has bothered me a lot lately (double
cron runs all the time) and since it is not maintained people should
choose alternatives for themselves. fcron is a bit more uncommon, and
vixie seems to be mainstream right now, but I don't want to force people
into using a specific one, or force others to remove modules after
installation.

The same goes for metalog. I and many others don't like the way it logs.
The alternatives (sysklogd, syslog-ng, even lard) seem to be a bit too
uncommon to pick (although sysklogd used to be standard throughout).
Choosing metalog is a choice I let to the user.

* you've also compiled the entire ISO with i686 options. Does that mean
we no longer support lunar on anything lower than i686 cpus ?

No =^)

Perhaps I never clarified this in the beginning: I intend to release a
i386/-Os optimized ISO for those who need it "soon". There is no need
IMO to provide this urgently since we still have 1.4.0 sitting around
and I want to _rewrite_ parts of the lunar-iso installer to remove the
presence of duplicate files (IOW remove up to 100mb) from 1.5.0. This
will probably become "1.5.0-i386" or 1.5.1-i686 and 1.5.1-i386. In the
same way this ISO can be built for p4, athlon etc. Of course it gets
interesting when we say amd64.

Perhaps I should rename the iso file lunar-1.5.0-i686.iso. Sounds like a
good idea to me now ;^)

Hope that answers your questions.

sofar
