the fix was easier:

 ~ $ export LD_PRELOAD=/opt/lunar/Xft/lib/libXft.so
 ~ $ mozilla

maybe my ld.so.conf needs a different order? Well, looks like I'll be on
4.3.0 before It becomes relevant.
