I added cyrus-sasl as optional dependency to kdepim3. the program seems
to link just fine and kmail runs and sends email fine as well. Closing

KMail program from kdepim3 module will not allow me to send e-mail
without installed cyrus-sasl in correct location. During installation
of kdepim3 module there is question about cyrus-sasl optional
installation. I said yes and both modules were installed, but KMail did
not allow me to send e-mails. So downloaded manualy cyrus-sasl (the same
version as in lunar module) and installed it manualy. Now KMail can send
e-mails because it finds required libraries in their default location.
To sum up:
1. The module cyrus-sasl can not be optional for kdepim3 module because
KMail (and maybe other apps like KNode) will not be able to send
e-mails.
2. The cyrus-sasl module should be installed to its default directory.
If any other module requires cyrus-sasl in non standard directory,
during installation of such module a symlink should be created pointing
to standard directory od cyrus-sasl. The programs which looks for non
standard locations of libraries must be in minority and probably will
be fixed soon.
Temporary fix:
Download and manualy install cyrus-sasl from tar.gz package.

this is not true, kdepim3 never had cyrus-sasl as optional depends in
the first place. *ever*.
