This has been deliberate as it breaks a LOT of applications (mozilla
etc) and on some configurations make fonts look horrible (CONFIRMED).

I saw freetype2 is now at version 2.1.9. Installed it and everything
seems to be ok with XOrg 6.7.0. Don't use XFree86 so can't test.
