If you look carefully in moonbase we already have a directory
for what you are proposing -- lunar/mirrors/, full pathname
/var/ftp/pub/lunar/mirrors/

And that is its specific usage right now -- a location for source
tarballs that need to be mirrorred on dbguin because they may not
exist anywhere else (or be very hard to find on the net).

mkinitrd is one such example module.
