It's more compilcated since directfb can depend on SDL too.

dem what can i do to help,  how do i duplicate your setup?
what kind of video card is required? i have the ati m3

Well to support DirectFB you need to have card that supported by one of the
linux frambuffer drivers. So i guess atyfb would be something for you.
Keep in mind you need to be root to use DirectFB (evil). Does this have
anything to do with your problem, i don't know ;) ?
