can't log in after update

I had similar troubles on my netbook Lunar. The source of problem was 
iptables. One of modules installs iptables configuration to:
/etc/config.d/iptables which is enforced on every boot.

If you want to check if this is the issue mv /etc/init.d/iptables to other 
path and reboot. Then check if you can log in.
