rescue cd

Can someone point me to either an iso of a rescue cd or instructions to 
build one that will work with an x86_64 3.1.6 kernel? The lunar-linux 
iso is too old. The one rescue cd I have found that uses a 3.0 kernel is 
still too old. init fails with a "FATAL: kernel too old" message.

I have spent 3 days building this machine and really don't want to have 
to start over.
