If you recently lost ability to switch from X console to text consoles or your non US chars can not be typed in - read this

If you recently noticed that console switching from X is not possible or the 
non US chars can not be typed anymore -  lin xkbdata. The xkeyboard-config 
module which appeared recently is in conflict with xkbdata so tries to remove 
xkbdata.

If lining back xkbdata fails with error when xkeyboard-config is installed 
remove (or better rename) /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules
Then lin xkbdata again. This time it will not fail.
