If you have an itch, why not scratch it? That's the open source way :-)

If it's just a question of simply downloading a new version, and not
of working out whether specific patches etc. are required, maybe you
could copy the module to your zlocal, apply the changes to the
version number and checksum, and submit the changes to the mailing
list. This would allow you to work now, and would help the devs who
are already quite busy trying to get things ready for a new ISO.
