Hi!
Here's the latest weekly news edition!
=====================================================================
Hi!
It has been a few weeks already since the last filled weekely so it's
literally now or (not for a while). As you all may know I'm moving
intercontinentally and soon, in two weeks already. This does not mean
that things are resting however, but you might hear less from me in
the period from now to -say- beginning of october. I'll be connected
fortunately, my wife already has DSL hooked up where we are going to
live =^).
After 1.5.1 we are all pretty content with how lunar is at the moment,
so we were lingering a bit for a while until tchan remembered that
we're still on gcc-3.3.3 and this has been itching for a year or so
now. The big problem a year ago was that almost any application would
fail to compile. Over the time this has become better, but then glibc
started to require more and more patches.
Now that 1.5.1 is available it's time to stir things up a bit, and
we are getting good results with the new gcc-3.4.4 and glibc-2.3.5
modules in moonbase. People need to beware the libstdc++5 pitfall and
heavily use lunar fix, or alternatively install the libstdc++5 module
to transition to the new gcc/glibc combination.
On top of that I added two new interesting modules to moonbase: XOrg-drm
and XOrg-drm-cvs. These 2 modules install only the kernel drivers from
XOrg and so you can recompile new kernel DRM modules quickly with them
after a kernel change. The -cvs is quite a bit newer than the standard
and might prove usefull to people who have problems getting cards like
the i8x0 intel cards to work fully.
I'm back to an almost empty house, I'll see you from the other side!
/sofar
