scribus, ghostscript and espgs

Fiddling around with scribus version 1.3.0. It warns to use freetype2-2.1.10 
anything lesser don't bother to submit a bug report. No big deal. I installed 
what it wanted. Nothing blew up so far with the lastest freetype2. 

Well then the configure phase complained about no ghostscript. Well I had 
espgs installed which moonbase says conflicts. So I installed 
ghostscript-8.16. So then scribus asks if I want espgs to make use of eps 
images. 

Well theres the rub and at this point is there still a conflict between 
ghostscript and espgs? Apparently scribus does not think there is else why 
would it ask that both be installed?
