actually PS1 etc seem to be exported and thus set, however the alias 
ls='ls --color=auto' and tab completion doesn't work inside screen 
sessions (so it's only half initialized?)

anyway your guess is as good as mine with this. I just know that inside 
a screen doing 'bash --login' works
