Anti-aliasing in gsview

Hi all.
It has bothered me for some time now that my gsview does not anti-alias
anything - even if told to do so.
The problem seems to be gs itself - I've yet to discover a set of
parameters to make it anti-alias.
Based on newgroups, I've composed command lines like the following:
gs -r100 -sDEVICE=x11alpha -dNOPLATFONTS -dTextAlphaBits=4
-dGraphicsAlphaBits=4 $file
but to no avail. It doesn't work for devices like 'pgm' and 'pngalpha'
either - so my X server doesn't seem to have anything to do with it.
I've noticed that there are two GhostScript implementations - 'espgs'
and 'ghostscript'. I think I've tried both, but nothing changes.
Any advice or suggestions?
