i made super progress tonight. i'm done for right now because i'm stuck.

here's the short version: got blender to compile until the point of
creating blenderstatic, then it fails. here's the very end few lines:

****> Build 22:54:39 07-Oct-2004 - 22:54:42 07-Oct-2004
*---> Create blender-2.34-linux-glibc2.3.3-i386 package
----> Make Config dir .blender
cp /sandbox/blender-2.34/bin/.blender/.Blanguages
cp /sandbox/blender-2.34/bin/.blender/.bfont.ttf
----> Copy blender executable
----> Copy and compile plugins
----> Copy python infrastructure
----> Strip blender executable
----> Create distribution file blender-2.34-linux-glibc2.3.3-i386.tar
----> Compressing distribution to blender-2.34-linux-glibc2.3.3-i386.tar.gz
****> /sandbox/blender-2.34/obj/2.34/blender-2.34-linux-glibc2.3.3-i386.tar.gz
is ready
*---> Create blender-2.34-linux-glibc2.3.3-i386-static package
----> Make Config dir .blender
cp /sandbox/blender-2.34/bin/.blender/.Blanguages
cp /sandbox/blender-2.34/bin/.blender/.bfont.ttf
----> Copy blender executable
cp: cannot stat
No such file or directory
make[1]: *** [install] Error 1
make: *** [all] Error 2

there it is... the thing is... even though the static linking doesn't
work, blender does indeed work. here's a screenshot to prove it:

now all that needs to be done is finding a way to prevent the static
binary from building are we are golden. here's a file for people to
use... i don't know if it will work without the build dir because i
don't really understand the ins and outs of dynamic linking... but
here, have this:
(please be nice to my server, i pay for that bandwidth... if you can
afford to wait for the moonbase to be updated, please do.
