I can't confirm this behaviour over here. GTK2 build just fine with
XOrg-test, gcc 3.3.3 and the kernel-headers-2.6 installed. Be sure to grab
the latest addition of XOrg-test module and that your freetype2 install
isn't broken.

PS: Building XOrg-test without a host.def file can't be the last definite
answer since I just got to know that it is now using its very own freetype
installation. Guess you gonna make up your mind a bit harder Nick ;-)
