XFree86 install error

Hello,

I've just installed the base system and have attempted to install
XFree86.  Here is the error message I have received during each attempt
(3) to install:

        /usr/include/freetype2/freetype/freetype.h:20:2: #error
        "`ft2build.h' hasn't been included yet!"

I have used default options for installation during the last attempt,
the other attempts I had included the Xnest server option.

Do I need to be installing a font configuration package first?
