glib question

Is there a reason that glib in moonbase is at version 1.2.10 
when the current version is 2.4.0? 

I want to install the mdb-tools package, but it requires glib => 
2.0.

I know that at times old versions of libraries are kept for 
compatibility purposes, but I don't know if this is one of 
those.
