hostname vs domainname

let me refrase my question:
if my FQDN is "server2.domain.nl", how should my /etc/domainname and
/etc/servername be setup? 
My logic would be:

> > [/etc/hostname]
> > server2
> > [//etc/hostname]
> > 
> > [/etc/domainname]
> > domain.nl
> > [//etc/domainname]
