Problem with gnome-audio?

Tried but does not work. There is no mention of
gnome-config in my /usr/lib/pkgconfig directory.
Should there be?

As root echo $PKG_CONFIG_PATH gives
:/usr/lib/pkgconfig:/usr/X11R6/lib/pkgconfig
