congratulations, you broke it.

please add this back. I'm REALLY pissed this was removed. Sysv 
compatibility should BY DEFAULT be disabled, and frankly anyone using 
sysv compatibility is in a major world of pain

And so am I... because my box is now not booting properly thanks to this 
commit.
