I already made a start on this, not as part of a general Gnome update
because I don't run the Gnome desktop, but just as a systematic check
and update of the modules installed on my box, and announced here:

That was for the update to glib 2.16.1 so it's already out of date :-(

Moe and Sofar suggested that it would be better to submit this via
a branch of the git tree so that other people could check more easily,
but I haven't had a lot of time since then, and I'm afraid that I still
haven't managed to get my head around git yet. I'll try this weekend.
