well i wouldnt ask this when i wasnt quite scared about 
this update. so, what you say is that major version 
differences of gcc do not produce more or less incompatible 
binaries? hmm, may well be that i am on the wrong track 
here...but i read "somewhere": "First and foremost, GCC 4 
breaks binary compatibility. What this means is, the ELF 
format is new and not backward compatible with the older 
ELF format."

so, whats the deal with this 4.1.1? whats new/better? why 
update? is it save or not? my box works like a charm, im 
not bored (well, thats a lie) and i dont wanna break it (i 
think).
