GNOME modules are still being patched for dbus 0.31, so I doubt that
they require it for 2.10. hal 0.5 does require it though and also the
use of /sbin/udevsend as hotplug multiplexer, so probably hal 0.4.7 is
a safer bet.

There are some issues with util-linux mount command and hal though,
because it adds 'managed' keyword to /etc/fstab lines and mount has to
be patched to ignore that. I created a custom config which uses 'users'
as keyword for autogenerated mountpoints (as a hack) and that works
very nicely, creating /media/cdwriter and /media/usbdisk mountpoints on
the fly.
