Request to reply mails

I would prefer that people be told to use the bugs interface which DOES
require a response from dev's as the problems are fixed! This would also
make it easier to track what work is being done!

On Fri, 2 May 2003, Niki Guldbrand posted the following:

NG>Hi.
NG>
NG>Just some "mad" idea i got:
NG>
NG><niki> What about we start to reply to mail which requstest support
NG> like, a module version bump, or fixing an error in a module, or
NG> the like, with a mail which clearly states if the issue has been
NG> fixed or not ?
NG><sofar> yeah we need to
NG><florin> hi niki
NG><sofar> unfortunately I've been quite unable to mail this week because
NG> of gettext-hell here
NG><niki> I will send a mail to lunar-dev proposing this, because now that
NG> have come back from Norway, i have to figure out what has been
NG> done
NG><niki> hehe, well as long as you don't forget ;o)
NG><niki> hi florin
NG><niki> what do you say to this florin ?
NG><sofar> niki: it should be informal/casual
NG><florin> seems resonable
NG><niki> What do you mean ?
NG><sofar> well, it shouldn't be "obligatory" that people get a certain
NG> response
NG><florin> when someone ask somethig it's civilised to give him a response
NG><sofar> yes yes
NG><niki> Yeah...
NG><sofar> but a note from niki saying "it's fixed" about a module is all
NG> we need
NG><niki> We do this at work, and it works realy well
NG><florin> you can motivate him to see more serious the lunar distribution
NG><niki> Yeah, something like that, or maybe more informative depending on
NG> the request mail
NG><florin> remeber me ?
NG><florin> :)
NG><niki> And then ppl also know when things has been fixed ;o)
NG><niki> And don't sit around not knowing...
NG><sofar> I need to get console mail to work
NG><niki> And we also have to do this with the "What is new bot" mails,
NG> just to help our selvs
NG><sofar> I'm too dependant on evolution
NG><niki> hehe..
NG><sofar> what about the bot?
NG><sofar> oh I fixed it last week BTW
NG><sofar> it shouldn't send out empty messages any more
NG><niki> You need a second machine (Which is stable) for mails and such
NG><sofar> I also dropped the refresh rate to 4x a day
NG><sofar> niki: I so so so do
NG><sofar> been thinking about putting my mail on Tau's laptop ;^)
NG><niki> hehe, that was a good idea
NG><niki> hehe
NG><niki> I ment to reply to the bots mails when they have been
NG> fixed/updated, to inform the other devs that it has been done.
NG><sofar> niki: I see, good point
NG><sofar> niki: we could even track the updates ourselves with an e-mail
NG><niki> Well i think i'll just paste this, easier than writing from
NG> scratch ;o)
NG><niki> Hows that ?
NG><niki> Well, the reply also needs to be sent to the lunar list, so that
NG> users can keep track too
NG><niki> What about some web page where we could see pending updates, or
NG> something like that ?
NG><sofar> niki: just reply to the bot!
NG>
NG>
NG>Any body got comments on this idea ??
NG>That will make it easier for the users to keep track of what is
NG>happening in Lunar land ;o)
NG>
NG>
NG>Best Regards
NG>
