Kernel always seems to fail to initialize '/proc/bus/usb' on startup

suspect modularized usb setup to be the problem, however I haven't seen
proc/bus/usb mounted anywhere yet...

It's it the mount that fails, isn't it? You need to have the 'preliminary
usb filesystem' option selected in the kernel config.
I have /proc/bus/usb mounted without a problem.

This can be enabled by setting CONFIG_USB_DEVICEFS=y in the kernel
config. (It the third item on the kernel USB configuration menu,
"Preliminary USB device filesystem".)
This could probably be made part of all of the .config files
inculded on the lunar ISO, meantime users who want this function
may select this option during kernel config.
